Introducing Len, Tash & Macka Daw

Thursday, December 28, 2023

Long-time Ravensthorpe locals, the Daw’s have taken on the nearby franchise area of Jerramungup, Gairdner, Borden and Pingrup.

Their son Mackenzie (Macka) will work alongside them in the business helping Len out in the truck. Working as a family team is nothing new to the Daw’s, who for the past four years have owned and run Ravensthorpe Building Supplies with the help of their daughter Khiara.

“It seemed like a good franchise to be involved in, the seasonal work appealed to us and will tie in with our small farming operation as an extra source of income.”

The Hannaford franchise offers Len the opportunity to combine his love of operating machinery and interacting with farmers, with the freedom of being your own boss.

“We’ve mostly been in business for ourselves since school with the exception of my ten years at Case,” said Len.

From farming backgrounds, the couple operated a shearing contracting business earlier in life and Len also spent ten years with Case IH in Ravensthorpe, becoming a qualified Ag mechanic before transitioning to machinery sales.

“I’ve had a lot to do with machinery through my life. Harvesting and grain quality has always interested me, so this is an extension of that – like a full circle – to see a good sample of grain seed come out of the machine is very satisfying.”

The Daw’s run a 300 hectare property in the district that was originally part of Len’s family farm. Having been sold in the past, they were fortunate to be able to buy it back, and now live in the 100 year old house that was originally Len’s grandparents’ home.

“It’s quite small for these parts – but it’s a great lifestyle and we get to dabble in growing our own crops,” said Len.

With their background in agriculture, contracting and running a local business, the Daws believe that the most important business is repeat business.

“We believe if you have a client, it’s important to retain that client, so we always operate to retain customers,” said Len. “I think quality of workmanship plays an important part in that.”

“We have a genuine interest in the industry and want to see farmers succeed and do well,” added Tash. “If they can grow good crops and we’re a part of that, then that’s awesome.”
